School Improvement Plan

Academics and Achievement:

  • All professional development shall empower educators to meet learner needs.

    • All professional development tasks must be aligned with the district goal of helping learners take their next step.

  • All learners shall grow (academically) and develop (habits and skills) to be college or career ready.

    • Academics—Future Watchdog graduates will be:

      • Articulate, fluent, and analytical readers at or above grade level who are ready to apply their skills to the world.

      • Able to apply mathematics and scientific thinking in real life through effective communication and collaboration at or above grade level.

    • At or above grade level in all academic content areas and be able to apply the essential understandings of the discipline to life after the Beresford School District.

  • Skills and Habits

    • College-bound Watchdog graduates will be college-ready.

    • Future Watchdog graduates will be career-ready.

Fine Arts:

  • Eighty percent (80%) or more of students that have participated in Choral and Instrumental Music will be advanced or proficient as measured by our designed qualitative and quantitative age-appropriate indicators.

  •  Eighty percent (80%) or more of students that have participated in  Visual Arts will be advanced or proficient as measured by our designed qualitative and quantitative age-appropriate indicators.

  •  Eighty percent (80%) or more of students that have participated in Theatrical Arts will be advanced or proficient as measured by our designed qualitative and quantitative age-appropriate indicators.

Athletics: Report Card of Progress & Athletic Handbook

  • Community and Youth Development

    •  Athletic programs will create a community environment where youth programs are mentored and developed so that when students enter 7th grade they have a basic skill set and appreciation of the game to set the groundwork for middle school and high school athletic success.

  • Participation and Retention

    •  Athletic programs will create an environment where its sports teams have sufficient participation numbers and quality of athletes to field teams at the competition levels in grades 7-12

  • Competitiveness

    • Athletic programs will be competitive based on various measures—preparation and performance for contests, personal and team records, conference standings, region seeding, and state-level competition.

  • Sportsmanship:

    • Athletic programs will promote an environment of leadership development and opportunities while using the sportsmanship expectations of the SDHSAA/NFHS as the basis for player, coaches, and spectator behavior with sportsmanship messages and expectations developed, written, and delivered by BHS student-athletes.

Servant Leadership:

  •   All JK-12 learners will be engaged in the 16 Habits of Mind on a daily basis.

    • The Habits of Mind are instilled and reinforced with our learners throughout the day in our classrooms, fine arts, athletics, and other co-curricular activities.

    • The Habits of Mind promote the growth mindset, which will result in positive behaviors, choices, and decision-making.

  •  All JK-12 learners will be engaged in action-basedservice, and leadership-building activities through academics, fine arts, athletics, other school co-curricular activities, and community programs.
