Despite some illnesses and conflicts with other activities, a small but competitive team of 11 Watchdog Oral Interp Students won second in the Sweepstakes out of 18 schools attending the Pumpkinstakes Oral Interp Tournament in Watertown on Nov. 2, 2024. Four high school students and seven middle school students represented Beresford at the event.

Individual winners included Varsity Duet Acting: First place, Isabelle Beeson and Sophia Coe; Second, Max Kinney and Henry Huether. Varsity Humorous: First place, Max Kinney; fourth place, Sophia Coe. Varsity Storytelling: First place, Isabelle Beeson.


Novice Duet Acting: First place, Abby Cahoon and Ojala Bartlett; third place, Raiden Hanner and Emma Martinsen. Novice Humorous: First place, Raiden Hanner; third place, Julia Kinney; fourth place, Ojala Bartlett. Novice Non-Original Oratory: fourth place, Henry Huether. Novice Storytelling: First place, Abby Cahoon; Third place, Zooey Bartlett; and fourth place, Emma Martinsen. Novice Poetry: Fourth, Julia Kinney. Novice Non-Original Oratory: fourth place, Henry Huether.

The Readers Theater took fifth place. That team included 8th graders Raiden Hanner, Ojala Bartlett, Abby Cahoon, Maddy Aday and 7th grader Emma Martinsen.

The selected winners of the Beresford Oral Interp local contest will compete at the Regional Oral Interp Contest in Vermillion on Wednesday, Nov. 20th.
