Dear Students and Parents,
The
Beresford School District will be offering Driver Education to students who are
within 6 months of their 14th birthday. Therefore, any students born on or before
November 26, 2006 for session one and December 1, 2006 for session two will be
eligible for Driver Education this summer at Beresford High School. The cost for enrollment in Driver Education at
Beresford High School is $250. Mr. Carda
will teach both the classroom portion and behind-the-wheel instruction during
sessions one and two. The schedule for
Driver Education is as follows:
1. Students
are required to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction. The 30
hours are mandated by the state so attendance is required for all five days
during session one or session two. Driver
Education class will meet on the following days and times at the high school in
Mr. Carda’s classroom #208.

Session
2:
Monday, June 1: 8:00 - 11:30 a.m. 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday, June 3: 8:00 - 11:30 a.m. 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

2. Students will be in the car for approximately 18 hours, with at least 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. Driving time will be scheduled while students are in the classroom. When scheduling the driving portion, Mr. Carda will do his best to schedule around summer camps and family vacations.
Most insurance companies will offer a discount if a student completes and passes (60%) both the classroom and driving portions of Driver Education. Students who score an 80% or higher on their classroom portion will be
exempt
from taking the South Dakota Department of Motor Vehicles written exam. Students who score an 80% or higher on their
driving portion will be exempt from taking the South Dakota Department of Motor
Vehicles driving exam. If a student does
not pass the classroom portion, he/she will be ineligible for the driving
portion.
3. In order to reserve a spot for your child in the Summer Driver Education program, a $100 non-refundable deposit is required. Please have your son/daughter return the attached form and a $100 non-refundable deposit to the office by Friday, March 27, 2020. The remaining balance of $150 must be paid on or before the first day of class on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 or Monday, June 1, 2020. Both checks should be written to Beresford Schools.
